Callegari’s innovations have resulted in numerous patents including significant holdings in the architectural lighting space.

How it got started

From building a basic computer that used a rotary phone dial to input numbers to a leading edge color changing building façade with more than 7000 lighting control points, Callegenix is driven by a passion of innovation.

The source of inspiration comes from the company founder, Mark Callegari. A confessed technology addict, Mark spent most of his free time growing up taking apart electronics and putting them back together, many times with his own enhancements and features. Mark’s original curiosities and love for technology is still as strong as ever and has resulted in many successful products and companies.

Mark and Callegenix’s path started with software companies that were built and sold during the 1980s and 90s. More recently, Callegenix has thrived in the lighting market.

Fittingly, the most recent successes started with holiday displays that consumed Mark’s home and neighborhood to the point they were featured on national TV and re-located to a city park to alleviate traffic jams in the neighborhood. The technology behind his residential displays eventually served the professional lighting market as well with packaged lighting controllers and services that are used in high-profile lighting projects throughout the world.

With these successes in the lighting market in hand, Mark and Callegenix are now driving Jolt Lighting. With a decade’s worth of experience in building lighting products, Jolt Lighting offers its LumiBlox family of controllers that are unlike anything on the market. Using a building block mentality, lighting designers, architects, and others in the professional lighting market can quickly and cost-effectively build a system from palm-sized controllers that meets a wide variety of lighting requirements including the ability to add interactivity or scale to a virtually unlimited number of lighting control points or surface area.

What’s next? With Jolt off and running, the future is, well, bright. Check out the latest creations at joltlighting.com.

Patents

Callegenix’s innovations have resulted in numerous patents including significant holdings in the architectural lighting space.

The primary patent includes the process of illuminating a building façade with a matrix of color-controllable lighting sources. Callegenix employees have delivered many large-scale building façade lighting applications and are highly familiar with the unique factors that surround each project.

The company earned two patents derived from these experiences:

  • Expanded bit map display for mounting on a building surface and a method of creating same

An expanded bit map display (“EBMD”) (10) for displaying an image (14) and a method of creating such for mounting the EBMD (10) to a building surface (12) is provided. The EBMD (10) is a large-scale colored light display comprising a plurality of intelligent light fixtures (16) having a microprocessor and a memory and mounted to the building surface (12). Each light fixture (16) is separately addressable and operable to store lighting characteristics or information. Groups of light fixtures (16) are in communication with a central processor operable to communicate control protocol
